It is closely related to another concept called <strong>Just-in-time manufacturing <\/strong>(JIT manufacturing in short). Just-in-time manufacturing tries to match\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manufacturing\">production<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Supply_and_demand\">demand<\/a>\u00a0by only supplying\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Goods\">goods<\/a>\u00a0which have been ordered and focuses on efficiency, productivity (with a commitment to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Continuous_improvement\">continuous improvement<\/a>) and reduction of &#8220;wastes&#8221; for the producer and supplier of goods. This production method adopts the just-in-time approach and additionally focuses on reducing <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cycle_time_variation\">cycle<\/a>, flow and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Throughput_(business)\">throughput<\/a>\u00a0times by further eliminating activities which do not add any\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Value_(economics)\">value<\/a>\u00a0for the customer.<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lean_manufacturing#cite_note-1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>Lean manufacturing also involves people who work outside of the manufacturing process, such as in marketing and customer service.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This production method\u00a0 is particularly related to the operational model implemented in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Post-war\">post-war<\/a>\u00a01950s and 1960s by the Japanese automobile company\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Toyota\">Toyota<\/a>\u00a0called &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Toyota_Way\">The Toyota Way<\/a>&#8221; or the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Toyota_Production_System\">Toyota Production System<\/a>\u00a0(TPS).<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lean_manufacturing#cite_note-2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lean_manufacturing#cite_note-Shingo-3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a> Toyota built its system on two key pillars: just-in-time inventory management and automated quality control.
